What is Christianity?

So what’s it all about anyway?

'11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.' [1 John 5:11,12]

However…

When Adam rebelled (sinned), this relationship ended; our life in fellowship with God ceased, we had died spiritually. We no longer had any relationship with Him; the Bible declares that we became the enemies of God.

'23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,' [Romans 3:23]

And the result?

'23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.' [Romans 6:23]

The Bible speaks about physical and Spiritual death. Spiritual death is being cut off from God, who is the very Author of life.

'27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,'

[Hebrews 9:27]

Can man save himself?

'8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God– 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.'

[Ephesians 2:8,9]

The Bible shows us that after the fall, God could not stop loving us. God made a plan to bring us back into fellowship with Himself.

What did God do?

'16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.' [John 3:16]

Why?…

'6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.' [Romans 5:6,7,8]

So what do we need to do?

'24 "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.'

[John 5:24]

'9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.' [Romans 10:9]

What then do we have?

'36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him."' [John 3:36]

What do we become?

'12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God–' [John 1:12]

Jesus said that such a person has been born again. When people receive Jesus, can they know for sure that they have eternal life?

'11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.' [1 John 5:11,12]
